The Training Center's surgical teaching laboratories provide an array of sophisticated education and training tools for surgical residents, among them:
Multiple Surgical Training Simulators
Enables residents and students to practice surgical techniques on life-like organ models. These simulators will build the hand-eye coordination that is so critical to surgical practice as well as develop the agility required to conduct laparoscopic operations and other technically challenging surgical techniques.
Computer-Equipped Work Stations
Provides users direct access to vast library resources, including a range of medical databases and CD-ROM learning programs.
Real-Time Wired Access to Operating Rooms
Real-time wired access to operating rooms within
University
of Minnesota
Medical
Center, Fairview,
and Experimental Surgery Services, will allow residents and students to observe operations in progress and listen to the communication of the primary surgeon with his or her assistants and operating room personnel.
Tape and CD library
Allows users to observe a particular operation, and then use the training simulators to practice the observed techniques.
