These procedures are used to remove parts of a kidney (partial nephrectomy) or an entire kidney (total nephrectomy) which are no longer functioning. Unlike open surgery, which requires a second incision to remove the lower portion of a diseased ureter, the laparoscopic approach can remove the kidney and ureter using the same laparoscopic incisions. Patients are anticipated to be discharged after an overnight stay.
