Microdiskectomy in the lumbar spine

Lumbar microdiscectomy is done in several ways. It can be done through a one- to two-inch incision using magnifying glasses, using an operating microscope or through the METRIXTM tube system. All of our surgeons perform some version of this operation. The advantage of this operation is that muscles are pushed to the side rather than being cut, little or no bone is removed, bleeding is minimal, recovery is quicker. Patients usually go home in under 24 hours.
