Permanent sterilization is among the most frequently performed operations in the Untied States. There are many techniques described for this procedure, but most simply involve removing a portion of the fallopian tube and closing the interveneing ends, thus providing a barrier between sperm and egg. These techniques are highly effective and are usually performed on an outpatient basis.
