It is now possible to approach tumors of the pituitary gland, and some other tumors at the base of the skull, using endoscopes through the nose and without any external incisions. The bone of the base of the skull can be removed with drills or other instruments and the opening can be repaired with tissue and biological glue, allowing operations that previously required opening the skull to now be done without any obvious opening.
