Patients with severe heartburn or symptoms of reflux can opt for management via laparoscopic creation of a new valve at the bottom of the esophagus by wrapping a portion of the stomach around the esophagus. The procedure is performed laparoscopically through five incisions 5 mm in diameter. This procedure can also be performed with the use of the da Vinci robot.
