Laparoscopic ventral hernia repair is now a common operation. In principle it is advantageous over standard hernia repair in that we plug the defect from the inside rather than try to patch it from the outside. The operation affords excellent visibility of the hernia defect with a clear definition of the margins of the hernia. Though all hernia operations are at risk for recurrence, this one appears to have a slightly lower likelihood of this.
