Laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair is an attractive option for those patients who have recurrence of their hernias or patients who have bilateral hernias. In addition for those patients that may be at higher risk for recurrence this may be an attractive option. The operation involves use of a balloon to create a space below the hernia and mesh can be inserted in this area. Though the operation does requires general anesthetic it is advantageous in that the entire defect sight can be visualized and patched using a piece of mesh.
