The laparoscopic duodenal switch is an operation that is quite complex in nature. Generally, patients who are higher in their body mass index are good candidates. The operation can be performed in either one or two stages which includes removing a portion of the stomach and then completing the rest with a duodenal switch later, this is best done in the high risk patients, or completing the procedure all at once. This can be done laparoscopically or it can be done open.
