University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview

The Medical Center brings together the faculty physicians and research scientists of the University of Minnesota and the services of community physicians. In 1997, the University of Minnesota Hospital and Clinics merged with Fairview Health Services and created University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview. For over a century, these two health care organizations have improved the quality of life for the people of Minnesota and beyond.

The
Medical Center
's commitment to the Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery has been immeasurable. In 2001, construction began on existing operating room suites to upgrade them to state-of-the-art facilities that could best accommodate minimally invasive procedures. The Medical Center now has four such suites, with development continuing on more. That same year, it purchased the da Vinci Surgical System for clinical applications. Since its purchase, more than 15 surgeons spanning all surgical disciplines have used this robotic system for case-appropriate procedures, improving the quality of care for patients.
